The African Union Fee (AUC), via its Political Affairs, Peace and Safety Division (PAPS) and with the facilitation of the African Governance Structure and the African Peace and Safety Structure (AGA-APSA) Secretariat, convened a capacity-building workshop on the African Constitution on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG) on 22-23 Could 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The workshop aimed to strengthen the technical capacities of Member States on the ACDEG and foster renewed political will to ratify, cultivate, implement, and report on the Constitution.
Adopted in 2007 and entered into pressure in 2012, the ACDEG is an important authorized instrument that underscores Africa’s collective dedication to upholding constitutional order, entrenching respect for human rights, and strengthening the rule of legislation past electoral democracy. It’s a cornerstone of the AU’s Agenda 2063, which envisions an built-in, affluent, and peaceable Africa, pushed by its personal residents.
So far, 46 Member States have signed the Constitution, 39 have ratified it, but solely two State Events have submitted their implementation reviews. The workshop, which focused the Member States that haven’t ratified, centered on 5 key outcomes:

Reporting: Member States highlighted the necessity for simplified and synchronised reporting procedures and prolonged timeframes to keep away from duplication and cut back the executive prices of reporting.
