Africa: Diocese in Europe Celebrates 30 Years of the Ordination of Ladies Clergymen


The Diocese in Europe is celebrating the thirtieth anniversary because the first girls have been ordained to the priesthood within the diocese. The Rt Revd Dr Jo Wells, Deputy-Secretary Common of the Anglican Communion, has been invited to preside at a celebratory service on June 19.

The service shall be stay streamed from St George’s Madrid at 1830 CET.

The Church of England’s Synod first authorized the measure in 1992 for girls to be ordained as clergymen after a few years of debate and advocacy, which included The Motion for the Ordination of Ladies (MOW). The Revd Canon Debbie Flach, the Diocesan Dean of Ladies’s Ministry, shared, “The ordination of ladies within the Church of England was solely a future hope after I joined MOW in 1980. And now we’re celebrating collectively on this diocese the thirtieth anniversary of the ordination of ladies to the priesthood.”
