VIA Rail and Unifor attain tentative settlement, avoiding a strike


By way of Rail has reached a tentative cope with the union representing 2,400 of its staff throughout the nation, the Crown company mentioned on Friday.

The deal averts a walkout involving members of Unifor, who had voted for a strike mandate to be exercised as early as Sunday.

Unifor says the tentative settlement gives beneficial properties in wages, job safety and dealing circumstances.

The union represents staff at VIA Rail stations, upkeep centres, the shopper care centre, in administrative workplaces and on board trains.

Unifor did not launch particulars of the deal, preferring to first inform its members at conferences scheduled over the approaching weeks.

VIA Rail has mentioned it was dedicated to a good and cheap settlement whereas remaining aggressive and offering high quality service.

The 2 events had damaged off contract talks earlier this month, setting the stage for a possible strike.
