MLB information: Umpire hit in head with line drive in scary second in Mets-Twins sport


Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt was hit within the head by a foul ball through the seventh inning of the New York Mets-Minnesota Twins sport on Wednesday.

Wendelstedt, 53, was manning first base when Tyrone Taylor slashed a line drive into foul territory. He tried to get out of the best way, however the ball hit him off the aspect of the pinnacle.

Wendelstedt instantly went down, and Mets’ first base coach Antoan Richardson frantically signaled in direction of the Twins’ dugout for medical consideration. The Twins athletic trainers tended to him whereas he lay on the bottom.

Wendelstedt remained down for a couple of minute or two, after which was helped to his ft and walked off the sphere with the help of the Twins’ athletic trainers whereas a towel was being held to his head.

“I’m unsure I’ve ever seen that occur,” Mets’ announcer Gary Cohen stated.

Taylor ended up grounding out to 3rd base as soon as the at-at resumed.

Wendelstedt is the son of Harry Wendelstedt Jr., who umpired for 33 seasons, from 1966 to 1998.

Hunter Wendelstedt has been umpiring MLB video games since 1998 and has umpired in a single All-Star sport (2011) and a World Sequence (2014).

Wednesdays’ sport between the Mets and Twins is the ultimate one in a three-game sequence. The Mets received 5-1 on Monday, and the Twins received 6-3 Tuesday to arrange the rubber match.

On the time of this writing, the Twins and Mets are tied 3-3 within the backside of the eighth inning.
