Warning issued after lone grizzly bear noticed on Texada Island – BC


Officers are warning the general public after a grizzly bear was seen on Texada Island.

In a public discover posted Monday, the qathet Regional District stated the grownup male bear, which has a yellow ear tag, had made its technique to the island after spending a couple of week within the Powell River space.

The bear was first noticed within the Pocahontas Bay space over the weekend.

Grizzly bears are recognized to be glorious swimmers. Final summer season, a grizzly sow was noticed with cubs on Vancouver Island after presumably swimming from the mainland.

The regional district is urging Texada Island residents to be bear conscious, and to take steps to make sure there aren’t any attractants together with meals or trash on their properties.

It added that the B.C. Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) is monitoring the state of affairs and can reply if needed.
