Vancouver police are warning the general public of a rise in distraction thefts within the southeast area of the town.
In a latest Instagram publish, the Vancouver Police Division (VPD) shared a map highlighting the high-risk areas of distraction theft. The caption reads, “S” Greater than 50 of those reported incidents occurred within the southeast area.

“This isn’t one thing new, this has been happening for years, however in the previous few years we have now seen an uptake,” stated VPD Const. Tania Visintin.

In 2021, VPD launched a marketing campaign to warn the general public of distraction thefts, following a report of 54 distraction thefts. To lift public consciousness, the Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers and the Vancouver Police Basis positioned academic billboards in English, Chinese language, Punjabi and Tagalog across the metropolis.
